Ophthalmology - Advanced Eye Specialty Services

Our Phone Number: 914.313.3937

Advanced Eye Specialty Services, a member of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth), is a growing program with numerous specialties. Its extensively experienced team of physicians achieves superb results for patients with complex medical and surgical eye-care needs. For appointments, information and referrals, please call 914.313.3937.

The new Director of Ophthalmology, Kelly Hutcheson, MD, is leading the charge to build and develop a new state-of-the-art eye center. Advanced Eye Specialty Services’ mission is three-fold: Provide excellent and compassionate patient-centered care, tailored for each patient’s needs; provide top-notch education to the next generation of ophthalmologists; and be an incubator for ideas and innovations in eye-care research.

Advanced Eye Specialty Services is conveniently close to home near Westchester Medical Center, the pre-eminent healthcare provider in the Hudson River Valley and the flagship of WMCHealth. Advanced Eye Specialty Services maximizes state-of-the-art therapies, technology, equipment and medical research to provide cutting-edge evaluation and treatment of complex eye disease. Beyond routine eye exams, Advanced Eye Specialty Services provides exceptional care for cornea and external disease; oculoplastics (plastic and reconstructive surgery of the eye) and orbital disease; pediatric ophthalmology; adult strabismus (abnormal alignment of the eyes) and double vision; glaucoma; complex cataract and anterior segment disease (disorders of the eye’s front structures); and many other areas of specialty.

The board-certified physicians of Advanced Eye Specialty Services are nationally recognized, fellowship-trained specialists. Advanced Eye Specialty Services also provides services to Westchester Medical Center and Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, also a member of WMCHealth, and their Level 1 Trauma Center and Burn Center.

Physicians and members of the entire Advanced Eye Specialty Services team guide patients through care with dignity, compassion and educational information at every step. Each team member embraces the need for nuanced attention from initial consultation through treatment and every step of aftercare. This personal touch is essential: Advanced Eye Specialty Services team members care for each patient the way they would care for their own families.

Thank you for trusting Advanced Eye Specialty Services and allowing us to be part of your care - and future.

Cornea and External Disease: Advanced Eye Specialty Services’ experienced team performs complex corneal surgery, including full and partial thickness keratoplasties (corneal transplantation), treatment of keratoconus (the thinning and bulging of the cornea), and management of ocular surface disease and dry eyes. Physicians treat corneal dystrophies (disorders in which abnormal material accumulates in the cornea) and pediatric corneal disorders as well.

Anterior Segment and Cataract Surgery: Patients may choose to have premium intraocular lenses implanted during cataract surgery to correct vision. Precise calculations on the most state-of-the-art, technologically advanced equipment assure the best outcome. Separately, Advanced Eye Specialty Services also provides cataract and glaucoma surgery together in one operation.

Diabetes, Macula and Retinal Disease: Advanced Eye Specialty Services offers one-stop shopping for the evaluation and analysis of diabetic eye disease, using imaging technology called ocular coherence tomography that is coordinated with a consultation with a retina specialist. The program provides management of age-related macular degeneration with the latest anti-VEGF therapies (which reduce blood-vessel swelling), also offering compassionate counseling and low-vision rehabilitation and management.

Orbital Disease: Physicians provide care for all aspects of complex disease of the orbit (the skull cavity hosting each eye) and periocular area surrounding the eyeball but within the orbit area. This includes repair of traumatic fractures and injuries, treatment of disfiguring eye and eyelid problems and removal of orbital tumors. As required, Advanced Eye Specialty Services physicians combine surgery with neurosurgery and ear, nose and throat physicians for complex procedures involving diseases extending into the brain or sinuses.

Eyelid and Oculoplastic Reconstructive Disease: Advanced Eye Specialty Services treats congenital and acquired disorders of the eyelid, including ptosis (the dropping of the upper eyelid), involutional laxity (sagging of the lower eyelid), inturning lashes or lids, tumors involving the eyelid skin or lid margins, and disorders of the tear ducts and the related lacrimal system.

Pediatric Ophthalmology: Physicians provide complex pediatric ophthalmic evaluations for children who require the expertise of other pediatric specialty providers. Advanced Eye Specialty Services also manages genetic and retinal pediatric ophthalmic disorders and performs pediatric cataract surgery.

Adult Strabismus and Double Vision: Physicians diagnose and treat adults with double vision from acquired disorders such as stroke, trauma, brain lesions, inflammation and other systemic problems.
