Dr. Josephberg oversees the medical retina service and works closely with ophthalmology residents. He is an associate clinical professor at New York Medical College, the academic affiliate of Westchester Medical Center, and has been on staff and an active attending physician at Westchester Medical Center for over 30 years, as well as the Chief of Retina Service for over 20 years. He is an associate clinical professor at New York Medical College. Dr. Josephberg completed his fellowship training in vitreo-retinal diseases at the prestigious Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, and performed his ophthalmology residency at the New Jersey College of Medicine. He holds multiple hospital appointments and has published numerous scholarly articles and book chapters. Dr. Josephberg holds several patents, including for sutureless pars plana vitrectomy (removal of vitreous gel from the eye) patents and commercialization of instruments for this procedure. This technique now is considered the global standard for retinal surgery. He was inducted by his peers into the Retinal Hall of Fame in 2017 in the field of retinal diseases and surgery. Dr. Josephberg is respected in the community, volunteering for organizations for the blind. He also received a humanitarian award from Project Orbis, a nonprofit organization promoting quality eye care for all, for his service around the world. He regularly treats macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal tears and other retinal disorders.
