Dr. Lerman currently serves as director of Residency Training at WMC, and as director of the New York Medical College Psychiatry Clerkship. As a student and practitioner of psychiatry, Dr. Lerman's goals and methods have been inclusive, seeking areas of convergence between neurobiology and subjective theories of mind, family systems theory with individual psychotherapy, and cognitive dynamic psychology.
Dr. Lerman's current academic interests focus on assessment and developing advanced interviewing skills using simulated patient interviews and challenging "gated" interview scenarios. He has led teams of WMC residents in a series of clinical workshops at the APA Annual Meeting. Dr. Lerman is the recipient of teaching awards at both WMC and Columbia. He is currently the president-elect of the Westchester Psychiatric Society.
