Welcome to the Westchester Medical Center Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology Fellowship Program information page.
The Division of Cardiology at Westchester Medical Center (WMC), affiliated with New York Medical College, offers a one year ACGME accredited Fellowship Training Program in Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology (AHFTC). We have one fellowship position. The Fellow receives training in all aspects of heart failure, cardiac transplantation, mechanical circulatory support, and pulmonary hypertension. The Fellow is trained in right heart catheterization, hemodynamics, cardiac biopsy, and CardioMEMs implantation. Additionally, the Fellow will have extensive exposure to the diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension. Our Faculty includes 4 heart failure attendings, 4 nurse practitioners, and the other essential components of a heart transplant/VAD team including cardiothoracic surgeons, pathologist, and immunologist. WMC currently performs about 30 cardiac transplants and 30-40 durable LVADs per year (including Heartware, Heartmate 2 and 3). We also have a multidisciplinary acute circulatory shock program, with over 60-70 VA-ECMO cases managed per year.
We participate in ERAS. Applicants must complete a 3-year Internal Medicine Residency and 3-year Cardiology Fellowship to be eligible. Our application cycle begins on December 1st each year via ERAS (ex. ERAS applications open December 1, 2018 for a program start date July 1, 2020).
