VALHALLA, NY (March 30, 2023) – Individuals with non-emergent heart concerns can now take advantage of a new program at Westchester Medical Center that offers convenient, same day cardiology appointments.
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States and according to the American Heart Association, about 80 percent of cardiovascular disease is preventable. Westchester Medical Center Health Network’s (WMCHealth) Heart and Vascular Institute is dedicated to preventing heart disease and developed the Same-Day Cardiology Program at Westchester Medical Center to encourage heart health and to make cardiology care accessible to a larger segment of the population.
WMCHealth’s commitment to heart health includes the assignment of a cardiologist to the Same-Cardiology Program. The cardiologist will evaluate individuals seeking same-day care and determine whether that individual is a candidate for a same-day appointment, or in need of immediate care at the nearest emergency department.
The Same-Day Cardiology Program at Westchester Medical Center is available to the community weekdays from 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. Individuals who request an initial appointment by calling 914.909.6917 between 8:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. will be scheduled for the same day. Appointment requests after 2 pm will occur within 24 hours, ideally the next morning, except for weekends and holidays.
“Our primary goal with the Same-Day Cardiology Program at Westchester Medical Center is to care for as many people as we can before there is a serious issue and emergent care is necessary,’’ said Gabbie Fried, RN, Vice President of Cardiovascular Services, Westchester Medical Center. “Heart disease is so prevalent and we want everyone to be mindful of their heart health and take the necessary steps to address concerns before they become serious.”
A Same-Day Cardiology Program appointment at Westchester Medical Center will include:
- Consultation with a cardiologist
- Electrocardiogram (ECG)
- Blood pressure measurement
- Blood draw for lab analysis (if clinically indicated)
- Echocardiogram (if clinically indicated)
WMCHealth Heart and Vascular Institute’s investment in heart disease prevention also includes the Cardiovascular Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Program, which advocates proactive heart-healthy practices, looks for early signs of heart issues, and provides treatment to minimize and eliminate risks of condition. The Network’s comprehensive heart and vascular service offerings also include cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery and vascular surgery services.
