VALHALLA N.Y. (May 30, 2024) – The Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth) 2024 Gala will take place on Saturday, June 1st at the Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts in Katonah, N.Y.
At the Gala, WMCHealth will recognize former Congresswoman Nita Lowey and Regeneron Co-Founder George D. Yancopoulos, MD. Additionally, WMCHealth will salute a skilled nursing team and recognize exemplary physicians for their service to the Network and the community.
Proceeds from the event will support A Tower to Heal, the campaign for the Critical Care Tower on the Westchester Medical Center campus.
2024 Gala Honorees:
- Former Congresswoman Nita Lowey will receive the John F. Heimerdinger Lifetime of Service Award. Lowey served as Assistant Secretary of State in New York before winning a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives for New York’s 20th congressional district (now the 17th) in 1988. She was the first woman to do so and represented parts of Westchester County, Queens, and the Bronx from 1989 to 2021.
- George D. Yancopoulos, MD, Board Co-Chair, Co-Founder, President, and Chief Scientific Officer of Regeneron, will be recognized as a Community Champion. Dr. Yancopoulos has been instrumental in developing Regeneron’s twelve FDA-approved and authorized medicines, as well as foundational technologies, alongside Leonard Schleifer, MD, and other team members, since 1989.
- Ivan Miller, MD, Director of Emergency Medicine at Westchester Medical Center, will be presented with a Physician Exemplar award. Dr. Miller joined the medical staff at Westchester Medical Center in 2005 and became Medical Director of the Emergency Department in 2012.
- Augustine Moscatello, MD, Director of the Department of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery at Westchester Medical Center, will also receive a Physician Exemplar award. Dr. Moscatello, President of the New York Laryngological Society, has been a respected leader in the field of otolaryngology and has served at Westchester Medical Center for 37 years.
- The Medical/Surgical Nursing Teams at Westchester Medical Center will be honored with the Care Champions award. These dedicated teams provide coordinated, comprehensive care to patients undergoing medical and surgical treatment.
Supporting a Critical Project
The new Critical Care Tower at Westchester Medical Center aligns with WMCHealth’s mission to expand and enhance clinical care services across the Network’s facilities.
Westchester Medical Center, a regional academic medical center, serves as both a referral hub for other hospitals and a lifeline for community members facing acute illness or injury. The demand for Westchester Medical Center’s highly specialized services continues to grow, necessitating an expansion of intensive care unit beds.
The Critical Care Tower, a modern five-story facility covering 162,626 square feet, will house 96 private, intensive-care-unit-capable beds. Additionally, Westchester Medical Center’s new Critical Care Tower will have the flexibility to accommodate 32 additional ICU-capable beds, bringing the tower’s full ICU-bed capacity to 128.
