VALHALLA N.Y. (October 12, 2021) — WMCHealth Physicians, the medical group of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth), is now assisting families and individuals with the initial diagnosis and long-term treatment of genetic and metabolic conditions, such as phenylketonuria (PKU), lysosomal disorders and Pompe disease through WMCHealth Physicians' Advanced Medical Genetics.

Why Genetic Disorders Require a Lifetime of Care

A genetic disorder is a disease caused in whole or in part by a change in an individual's DNA sequence, according to the National Human Genome Research Institute.  Genetic diseases can be inherited and present at birth, and it is critical for many of these conditions to be identified and treated immediately as some genetic diseases can cause lifelong health problems or even early death*.

"Many genetic disorders must be identified early in life with a therapy course set immediately as a lifetime of therapies and clinical monitoring are often necessary to manage a genetic disease effectively,'' said Dr. Kronn.  "At Advanced Medical Genetics, we care for patients when they are infants, as they mature into adolescents and through adulthood, so it is important for these patients to have an experienced and cohesive team providing care. Now, we are able to provide this lifelong care with the support and resources of the WMCHealth Network and WMCHealth Physicians."
