Your Healthcare Team

Dedicated Professionals

At Westchester Medical Center,  our dedicated and highly skilled professional staff members and employees are here to help speed your recovery and maintain essential health services. Many will serve you directly, while many others work "behind the scenes" providing important support services. All of our hospital personnel wear Westchester Medical Center identification.

  • Attending Physicians supervise all aspects of your care and treatment. As a teaching hospital, they may be accompanied on patient rounds by "house staff" physicians, residents and fellows who have received their medical degrees. Undergraduate medical students may also participate in rounds and will be appropriately identified. Licensed physician assistants, nurse practitioners and registered nurses (RNs) with advanced education and clinical training may also assist the attending physician in your care and treatment.

  • Registered Nurses are educated and trained in a variety of specialty areas. You will meet nurses in your area as well as a variety of other nursing professionals who may be instrumental in your treatment. All of Westchester Medical Center's nurses keep abreast of the latest advances in their field, participating in skill-training updates and continuing education programs, and our clinical nursing specialists have master's degrees in clinical specialties.

  • Patient Advocates are available to discuss any problems or concerns you may have about your care. All Patient Representatives are specially trained professionals whose primary responsibility is to serve as your liaison to the Medical Center and all of its services.

  • Chaplains are members of the healthcare team who provide spiritual/religious resources to meet the needs of you, your family and staff during times of change and uncertainty. Our team of Chaplains is specially trained to minister to people of diverse faiths in the hospital setting. We offer a listening ear, spiritual counsel, sacraments and other religious services according to your request.

  • Social Workers are ready to assist you and your family with personal or family adjustments related to your illness that may affect your recovery. They work in consultation with your physicians and nurses and have access to a variety of resources that may help you resolve problems. Social workers are also available to help you plan for care following your discharge from the hospital, if necessary.

  • Case Managers are specially trained registered nurses. Together with your healthcare team, your Case Manager will participate in the development of a care plan that includes you as the primary decision maker. Acting as a liaison between you and your insurance company, your Case Manager will respond to requests for updated medical information as well as seek authorization for services you will need after you leave the hospital. Your Case Manager will make sure you remain informed of your care during your hospital stay as well the plan for after you are discharged and will assist you as you communicate with your health care team to insure your needs are met.

  • Clinical Dietitians are available for personal nutrition counseling. Specially trained dietitians and clinical aides will gladly assist you with your specific dietary needs during your hospital stay.

  • Support Staff may or may not cross your path during your stay at Westchester Medical Center. These professionals include therapists (occupational, physical, respiratory, speech and hearing therapists), technicians (laboratory and x-ray technicians), pharmacists, housekeepers and food service staff.

  • Volunteers from every sector of the community work in nearly every department of the hospital, offering their time and caring support. Westchester Medical Center volunteers wear bright teal-colored jackets and perform a wide variety of non-medical services to help make your stay as comfortable and as pleasant as possible. Many of the volunteers are members of the Medical Center's Auxiliary, which operates the Gift Shop as well as other programs, services and fundraising events that contribute to the care received by Westchester Medical Center patients
