The Emergency Department at Westchester Medical Center (WMC) is the only Level 1 Trauma Center for the Hudson Valley Region. Our state-of-the-art facilities provide complex, multi-disciplinary emergency care 24 hours a day to adult and pediatric patients, including walk-ins, those brought in by EMS, and trauma cases transferred from other facilities. Serving all levels of emergency need, we are the local hospital of choice for the most critically injured patients requiring the most advanced intervention available.

As a Level 1 Trauma Center, our Department is staffed with trauma surgeons and critical-care specialists, and equipped with a full array of advanced diagnostic and treatment technologies. Our facilities feature dedicated areas for trauma and burn care, CT technology and real time digital radiography with multiple viewing stations throughout the Emergency Services area that enable our physicians to quickly view and interpret CT scans, MRI results, sonograms and reports. We also utilize a state-of-the-art digital documentation system which tracks physician documentation and interfaces with other hospital departments, allowing for quick retrieval of up-to-date records and treatment history – a critical need when time is of the essence.

We are also home to the only Level 1pediatric Trauma Center with 24-hour medevac helicopter and ground transport in the region;  STAT Flight-staffed helicopters include teams of critical care flight nurses and paramedics. Aviation services provided by Air Methods Corporation.
